Goodbye 2010, Hello 2011!

I wanted to wish everyone a happy, festive, and safe New Year's.  If your 2010 was a particularly tough one, there's always hope that with the turning of the calendar, better things are ahead.  Please be careful if you're celebrating away from home, don't drink and drive, and be on the alert for those that do...

I wanted to thank some people for a particularly great 2010...

Fiesta's Worst Quests

The names alone recall hours upon hours of torment and frustration... With each name, a shiver runs down your spine... Karasian's Hair, Bright Golden Bat Hair, Dark Crystal of Ratman Knight, Linous Horn, Phouch's Needlecoat, Gleaming Orb, Music Box, Ruby Guardian's Hair, Fragment of Memory, Luna's Breath..

Brings back painful memories doesn't it? And for those of you that yet to experience these quests, I wish you the best of luck.

So as I sit here waiting on a couple of Living Stones to respawn, it got me thinking... "What are your worst Fiesta quests?" Were they listed above? Maybe you just dread repeatables?

Much Ado About Malephar...

If you're a frequent visitor to the forums, you may have noticed a hot-button topic that's been circulating the last several weeks and has generated a lot of positive and negative viewpoints.  That topic is Malephar.

If you're unaware, Malephar is the newest raid boss that arrived in Fiesta a couple months ago.  He has his own nifty little map accessible through Dark Land.  He's a bit different than Helga though..

Hey Everyone!

Welcome to my second Holiday Event, sponsored by OutSpark, another leg in the 'Christmas Spirit' set of events to celebrate this holiday season.  If you're at all unfamiliar with the Christmas Spirit Events, you can view the announcement here.  Also, if you wanted to see what you, and everyone else, has already collected, you can view that here.

(Edit 12/20/2010 - Event's long over so I minimized the posting to make navigating my blog easier.  You can still view the full posting by clicking the 'Read more' link just below.)

Under the Weather...... *sniff*

Hey guys, just giving you all an update, I stayed home from work sick yesterday and today.  What started out as some weird body aches turned into fever and even more body aches over the last couple of days.

The event will still go on as the posting was already completed back on Monday.  It will auto-post today in a little less than 5 hours from now.  I'm kinda heavily medicated so I may not be around to answer questions during the event and typically, at home, my internet is kinda unreliable around that time.

Looks like you guys have a pretty good idea of how to participate in the event, so that's good.  Gives me some peace of mind.

I'll try to check back in around 3pm Forum/OS time as the event should have its 10 winners by then.  Good luck everyone!

Dice Game Tutorial

(reposting... old post disappeared :P)
Hey everyone!  By now many of you have either played, know someone who has played, or at least seen some of the system announcements regarding the Dice Game that the GMs have been hosting.  I've gone twice now on Bijou, and the first time I went and got a look at the board, it was pretty intimidating.  Hopefully, my little tutorial will at least familiarize you with what you're looking at when you get there.

T5 Enhancements - Not a Pretty Sight

I don't usually write things that put myself in a non-positive light.  I mean, I can poke fun at myself and have a laugh about things I've done, things I've said, and encounters that I've been a part of, but this is different.

This posting has to do with enhancement.  More specifically Tier5 105 Orange enhancements.  I recently got my 105 Ashur Bow to +10, and I should be happy right?  Who wouldn't want to strut around their server with the only-one-of-it's-kind, gleaming-away-at-its-full-enhancement-level weapon?  Well, me.

Get Interactive! Participate in my Poll!

Hey everyone!  Since my readership has grown quite a bit in the last several months, I was curious where my visitors come from.  Not meaning your place on the Earth, I see that with one of my analytics tools, but from what OutSpark Server or other host you most often play on.

I know I have quite a bit of friends from Bijou (my home server) that visit here, so I'm thinking that might be in the top spot, but who knows, maybe it won't be!  Anyway, so please answer my poll, it's located on the right side of the screen just below the 'About Me' section.  Again, this is not a contest, just something to cure my curiosity.  The poll will be open until Christmas.

If you'd like to give me more details, feel free to comment on this blog posting.  Thanks everyone!

A Break In The Clouds..

Like a break in the clouds, tonight you were there,
For the briefest of moments, again we a pair.

Unknown to all, a secret shared by two.
Quietly you arrived, merely out of the blue,
The time together we spent, it lasted the length of a charm,
I can't help but wonder will this cause me more harm.

Harmful or not, I cherished those hours,
Like a bee all alone in a field full of flowers.
I'm soaring again, but how long will it last,
Reminiscing on days, days long since passed.

Sadness.... Missing You.

Somewhere along the paths you and I took,
The lines got blurred with one simple hook.
A kindred spirit, our thoughts were shared,
Never had I thought my soul would be bared.
Unflappable and unbothered, the facade I chose,
Yet somehow you got in, god only knows.
Steely and uncaring, the persona you portray,
Yet somehow I got to you in my own special way.
Never the same, my life will it be,
A simple equation, always you + me.
You chose to leave and I can never find fault,
My heart aches like a wound smothered in salt.
But I am still around and you are nowhere near,
A heart forever singing with no one left to hear...

Congratulations!  You've discovered one of the Holiday Scramble Screenies!

Leviathan's Nest - Another Nerf?

Since a lot of my guildmates are capped or just bored, we've been doing a few Leviathan's Nest runs again trying to complete sets for some of our alts.  Since we've started this past week, we've noticed that LN has changed a little bit.  A lot of the challenge has been taken away and while this takes some of the fun away for us, I can see how the community as a whole can definitely benefit from the changes.

Frustration of the Day - November 11, 2010

I really thought they fixed this..... I guess I was wrong.

If you've never experienced this, what it is is when you wait four hours for the next KQ round to start, you're lucky enough to be one of the first 20 (or 15 or w/e your KQ max participation is) to get in and that "Now Loading" just doesn't go from white to blue....

Load Screen crashes are FTL.

That's about 6m experience I didn't get.  *sigh*

Stacking Has Returned! *throws confetti*

With last week's patch, included with it was the removal of the ability for non-mage classes to 'stack' damage.  Simply, this was defined as the ability to simultaneously run auto-attacks during your skill spam.  This resulted in a sort of 'double-attack' as your auto-attack always ran in the background while you launched skills at your targets.  Many players, to my surprise, were unaware of this.  Many claimed to have never done it, but really they have, they just never noticed it.  It was impossible NOT to do it unless you went around 1-hitting everything.

Stacking was essential for any class or subclass that chose, or was forced via prestige subclass choice, that used a lighter damage weapon.  In the case of the SharpShooter, the choice was made mainly because of the bow's high rate of fire, 1.0/1.1 secs per attack for the bow vs 1.3/1.4 secs per attack for the xbow.  While kiting, this makes no difference, but in a standing still situation, it makes a world of difference.

SharpShooter Skill Builds

There aren't an overabundance of SharpShooters on Bijou, nor for any server for that matter, but those of us that have gone this route are generally pretty chatty with each other.  Some classes like Gladiators are so secretive over everything, their builds, their empowerments, their equipment.... My SharpShooter is a work-in-progress and basically an open book.  I'll show you whatever I can, if I can (can't show you bound stuff other than posting screenies), and offer whatever advice I can give based on my own playstyle and experience.

That being said, I get asked a lot by other players about my SharpShooter, so here's a basic rundown of my Archer and my hopes on the future:

Event Quest - Zombie Invasion!

In celebration of Halloween, OutSpark has released a new event quest called Zombie Invasion.  You can pick it up from Shutian in Elderine.  He tasks you with gathering 50 Healing Herbs which can be acquired farming flowers throughout Isya.  The reward for completing the quest is a 7-day version of the new Type1 Zombie Dance which is based off of the dancing from the 'Thriller' video by Michael Jackson, the rewarded dance is half of the dance in the embedded video.  Pretty inventive! (Video and Screenshot above Copyright of Outspark, Inc.)

So it's simple right?  Find some flowers, grab the Healing Herbs, turn em in.... right?  Wrong.

Secret Laboratory - Blind Shot Set Completed!

Some of you around Bijou may have seen me carrying around this really unique, epic looking bow.  Some have asked what it is, and I gladly explain.  Many have asked to see it in trade window or in a vendor, but I can't because like the 100 blue sets before this one, the 105 blues are also Soul Bound.  I could drop it on the ground so you could pick it up and look at it yourself, but being the only bow of its kind on Bijou the likelihood of that occurring is nil.

Class Rebalancing - Archers

As most of you know, class rebalancing in regards to the Archer class has been a hot topic for the last 2 years (Archers were actually really good @ 59 and early 79 cap before people starting enhancing armors and buying extenders).  You can find threads on a near daily basis by those of us with archer mains asking for help from OutSpark and OnsOn to at least bring us up to par with the other 2 offensive classes, Clerics are another story.

So after much urging by both the playerbase as well as OutSpark, we finally have our first steps toward achieving a bit more balance to the Archer class.  Here is a breakdown of what's to come and what I think can still be improved.

So here's what was announced:

- The Archer's skill, Nature's Mist, will now be extended to include levels 6, 7, 8, and 9. The current level cap will allow tier 8 to be received at level 107.

My thoughts:  This is great!  This was much needed ever since the 89 cap was raised.  Archers capped out on this skill at level 83 [Tier 5], so aside from more damage from leveling up and a better weapon, the skill remained unchanged all the way through Prestige.  I'm extremely happy that this skill will get the attention that it deserved.  I'm guessing at 105, I'll have up to [Tier 7].

- The Archer's Skill, Entrap, will now be extended to include tiers 2, 3, 4, and 5. At the current level cap, tier 3 will be the highest attainable at level 110.

-  The damage for Entrap will be increased significantly and its cooldown will be reduced.

My thoughts:  Since I'm not a Ranger, I don't have much experience with this skill.  Keep in mind that this is the 'Invisible Flower Traps' skill and not Entangle.  From talking with friends and witnessing a bit in FBZ, the skill as it was was pretty useless.  It did minimal damage, similar to the damage the SharpShooter skill Slow Shot does.  We're guessing that with each tier, an additional flower will be dropped.  This skill is kitable, and with increased damage and shorter cooldowns, it may be pretty useful.

- The Archer's skill, MultiBloodShot, will take 50% of the original Spirit Points needed to cast the spell. Tier 1 will now take 451 SP, Tier 2 will take 533 SP.

- MultiBloodShot will be a skill that can be cast while moving. (still being worked on)

My thoughts:  This is also a welcome change.  However, as it is currently, the DOTs for MultiBlood and Piercing Shot are not stackable.  One cancels out the other which makes no sense as Piercing does 'Disease'-type damage and MultiBlood does 'Bleeding'-type damage.  The single target equivalents of the two skills can be stacked however.  Hopefully this is addressed when they implement these changes.  This skill also had a nasty habit of locking up all of your other skills if you cast it too often.  This skill-bug required a full log out to correct and oftentimes resulted in your death.

- The Soul Stone limitation for Archers that are below level 100 will be increased.

My thoughts:  This is a good thing for Archers, our stone capacity was really low, often requiring us to restone every 20-30 minutes depending on what we were kiting.

- The Soul Stone limitation for Mages that are below level 100 will be increased.

My thoughts:  Nice bonus for the mages too.  Mages were capped at only 72 HP stones all the way up to 99, if you were duoing or soloing in a far off place, like TOS Boss Room, your HP stones got wiped out really quickly, especially if you didn't have a Cleric available.

So those are the announced changes so far... not bad, at least it's a start.  There is just so much more that can be done though....  Here's what I would do, feel free to debate any of this:

1.  Increase base damage of both Archer weapons.  If base damage is not increased, we need a serious upgrade in the skill damage instead.  Either way, our attacks are really weak.

2.  Aimed Shot & Power Shot:  Once a Scout chooses SharpShooter, the level 100 upgrades should have a no cast time upgrade as well.  Having to wait to cast these skills is ridiculous, we're better off just standing there auto-attacking.

3.  Multishot:  Kitable after Prestige also with no cast time.  More base damage than Piercing Shot.

4.  Increase in Evasion.  No reason a fighter's evasion should closely rival that of an archer.

Will add more in a bit........

Quest for Titles - Silent, Marathon, Monster Hunting

Going to be trying to get these titles over the weekend since I have guests and won't be online much.... so if I'm ignoring your whisper, I apologize in advance.  I will be taking up residence in Gold Cave.

Mixed Emotions: The Holy Knight

(Sorry there has been a lack of updates this past week, I usually try to post at least twice a week, but that hasn't been the case.  I've been busy with in-game stuff, game related stuff, and real life issues that it has taken me away from posting... but here's a somewhat emotional update on what's happened this past week.)

{I'll pretty this up with some screenshots later, most of what I have is at home.)

After a LONG and ardous journey, my cleric has finally reached prestige.  It was with great deliberation that I finally decided to make her a Holy Knight.  Up until the other day, I was so sure that I was going to be a Guardian, that it never really crossed my mind to go the HK route.

So what brought about the change?  And why did I want to be a Guardian in the first place?

We finally received our t-shirts from the Fiesta Anniversary Event held a couple of weeks ago and wear it proudly!  We were so anxious and these didn't disappoint in the least!  Would be nice if we had some permanent shorts/shoes to match it but we try our best as you can see above.

Thank you OutSpark for a great time at the event and for getting these shirts to us... <3!

Le Papillon Weapon Skins - Sneak Preview!

OutSpark dropped a hint a few weeks ago that 'Le Papillon' was coming... they gave us a screenshot or two of a fighter holding a mysterious blue sword in a butterfly motif.  Many of us guessed that these would be the newest weapon skins and we were right!

The bonuses are a little different this time around though with a 7% Critical Hit Bonus, 5% Damage Increase Bonus, and 7% Aim Bonus.  (Thanks to Lukasz_Lucky for that information) So what do you guys think?

Here is a preview of what's in store...

Fatal's Mailbag - What's a Good Non-Cleric Duo?

I get messages from time to time asking me random questions about the game or even about myself or my experiences within Fiesta.  So why not answer these 'common' gameplay questions here on my blog?  So here we go!
Hi, I'm Winter. I'm new to the game, while browsing the forums I saw that you seemed to be well educated about the game.

I plan to play on the Bijou server, where it so happens to be the same place where you reside.

Well it'd be nice to chat with you ig but when I logged on you were no where to be found lol.

Anyways I have a few questions.

What's a good duo that does NOT involve a cleric?

Sorry to take your time.

Site Refresh - A New Background

Decided to update the look of the blog, let me know what you guys think of the new background... Above is the unedited screenshot taken last night in Forest of Mist.  Nobody, including myself, ever thought to submit a screenshot of this skill for any contests, I guess because it's a rarely used skill and the fact that there just aren't very many 95+ Archers around either, and how many of those actually enter any screenshot-type events?  Maybe I'll submit a re-shoot of this later for another competition.  Hey!  Don't steal my idea! *wink* ^. ~

Have a great weekend everyone, enjoy your server's EXP boost!  Wish I could play more on the weekends.... *grumble grumble*

The Destination? Arriving at 105

Hurrah!  I did it!  After a grueling 2.5 hours last night, yes 2.5 hours of kiting is excruciating for me don't laugh diehards, I finally reached my goal of 105!  Extra special thanks to my 20% and 50% charms, my cache of t5 scrolls, a bottle or two of t3 Strength, and the hordes of Phouches that laid down their lives so that I could level.  I would also like to thank StormyRain for keeping me company on MSN with steady encouragement while I silently grinded the night away.  Keeping hydrated was a key as well, so thank you to Aloha Maid for the wonderful Passion Orange juice that slaked my thirst last evening.

The Grind: Getting to 105 - Part II

Well a week has gone by and honestly, I haven't had much progress.  Some RL commitments (Family, BF, volunteering at Primary Election polling station, and most of all SLEEP) has taken me away from my normal Fiesta routine.  But that's not necessarily a bad thing.

So as you can see from the screenshot above and comparing it with the screenshot I posted last Monday, I only gained about 187m experience.  Not that much considering I'm a 100% EXP boost card.  *sigh*  I did complete roughly 20% so that means I'd be on pace to hit 105 by the middle of next week.  Hopefully I can beat that.

Stay tuned!

Fortress of Shadows - The 100-110 KQ

Finally!  After over 18 months of waiting, a new Kingdom Quest for those of us that reached prestige has been released!  There was so much anticipation and hope surrounding the release of this KQ, but did it live up to expectations?  Was it everything we were hoping for?  Was the experience gain enticing enough to alleviate the grind?  Let's find out!

Bijou's First FOS KQ Team:  Faytal, Itachi509, Fiara, laceface, Ami_, Eldirecto, minipkr18, Akariiii, _TempuS_, kauaigirl005, iTankYou, SarrowStar, xXxTempestxXx, SenzaMisura, Rembr4nt, Hamat, InT3rNeT, Likaru, StormyRain, dan112

The Grind: Getting to 105

Staying Awake is the Real Challenge
It's been about a week now that I've been sitting at 104.  Slowly, but surely, I'm inching my way closer to 105.  It's honestly a struggle for me, staying motivated to grind since my quests have all been long completed.
104-105 is a 955m grindfest.  I completed all my quests which may have accounted for about 10-15% of my total tops.  I didn't keep track of the experience gain from them and I did them here and there between grind sessions.  I've been fortunate enough that I haven't had to rely solely on myself to get all this experience, via kiting.

Quest for Titles - Death Titles

Every-so-often, boredom sets in and I set out to acquire in-game Titles.  I have a bunch already on my mage as this was my 'Main' for the greater part of the last 3 years.  My other 3 characters' title listings are quite short and Spartan by comparison.  My archer has only 23 titles thus far, not including Weapon License Titles

Since my mage is the only character I have with the Monster Joke Punchline title, I figured I may as well attempt this on my archer since I'm currently at work and have nothing better to do!

Isya Expansion - Dark Land

There was a lot of anticipation and hope for the newest mini-expansion and while I wouldn't say OutSpark failed to deliver, what was released leaves much to be desired.  Given, OutSpark did mention that not all of the content was ready when the cap was raised to 110 from 105, there is hope yet that certain maps and areas can be further tweaked to brighten up a typically dreary grindfest from 103 onwards.

Decision 2010 - The Conversation

Today is the first installment in a series of light hearted debate between the four candidates vying for possession of the Permanent White Cat Ears and Tail that was rewarded during the Isyan Explorer series of events hosted by OutSpark.

You have previously gotten to know a little about our candidates in my first posting at the conclusion of the Event Series.  At this time, I would like to thank the GMs and OutSpark staff for their efforts in running a fabulous series of events that players got to participate in via the Forums, on FaceBook, and in-game.

I now turn the podium over to StormyRain our Special Guest Host for the evening.

Decision 2010 - Help Me Decide!

The Isyan Explorer Events have finally come to a conclusion with the announcement of the Winners and Honorable Mentions in the Endless Summer screenshot event.  Thankfully my submission was good enough to be awarded one of the Honorable Mentions.  I only needed to have one of the top 7 entries, and I figured I had a more than decent shot when my entries were finalized and submitted.  Sure enough, they were!

So now I've accumulated all 4 Explorer pieces required to be awarded one of the grand prizes, the White Cat Ears and White Cat Tail permanent costume pieces!  There is also a TBA prize forthcoming as well.  The TBA prize was necessary because the previously announced in-game title award could not be done according to the developers.  I'm really excited to see what OutSpark decides on for this one!

Dirty Jobs - Fiesta Style

There comes a time in all of our lives when we're strapped for cash, trying to afford that shiny new +10 weapon, that godly set armor, or even money just to restone, and sometimes we have to resort to menial and oftentimes degrading work to earn that money.

So here I am to show you ways that you can earn a little extra cash and help out the community at the same time.  Keep your chin up adventurers, we've all been there.

Isyan Explorer Update - 3 Down 1 To Go!

Alright!  I just found out earlier today that one of my entries in the Adventure Story - Forum MVP Event was selected as the top prize.  Surprisingly, it was my first entry, my Leviathan's Nest Poem that earned the honors, not the story I had posted in last week's blog entry.  Wow, who knew?

Down Time Fun - The Nest Slime Challenge

Every now and then all players experience some down time in Fiesta, whether it be after a guild war, after an intense grind session, after an hour of questing, after reaching that next milestone, or simply when your batteries just need a recharge, it's important to fill your time with interesting activities.

You could dance in Elderine like everyone else, maybe farm some Toadstools in Uruga, or kill time (and players) in your FBZ of choice... Today I decided to have a bit of fun with a couple of mid-level players in Forest of Tides.

Isyan Explorer Set - OMG I WANTZZ

Once again, my pixel-fetish has gotten the best of me.  OutSpark is hosting a new 2 week + long event over the forums, FaceBook, and in-game.  It's quite ambitious and the prizes are very lucrative.

Forum Events - Children's Story

Just wanted to re-post my children's story from an OutSpark hosted event several months ago. I'm extremely proud of the end result and I was fortunate enough to be one of the two chosen winners!

Blog Traffic Statistics - Wow!

As my in-game hubby knows, I'm always checking my blog to see who's come and paid me a visit, and what they've read, and how they got to me... it's interesting how many of you have bookmarked my site versus how many come from the OutSpark site probably by clicking the link in my forum signature.

This was the traffic map generated just about 10 minutes ago for the last 24 hours.  can you find yourself?
